Founder@ Interview
Quick Interview with Amanda Saint
Who are you and what do you do?
I started Retreat West in 2012 as a creative writing school, teaching fiction writing skills and running competitions. In 2017 I expanded and now also run an independent publisher and have published over 100 authors since then.
“Be passionate about your business.”
Amanda Saint
What’s the story behind your success?
My drive, ambition and passion for what I do. I love telling stories and helping other people get their words out into the world.
What’s been your life’s biggest lesson so far?
That the career, mortgage, kids, pensions, route is not the only one and if it’s not for me, it’s not for me. Going down that route, albeit briefly by getting a ‘proper’ job in the corporate world, showed me it was not the path to follow for good.
Even though taking the self-employment jump was scary, and at times very financially hairy, it was the best thing I could have done. As you have to do what’s right for you, and not what everyone expects you to do.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Believe in your dreams as you have the power to make them your reality. Go after what you want, and do it all in the way that you want to, not the way that everyone says it should be done. That’s the only way to make it a success.
What three tools makes your business run better?
MailChimp, WordPress and desktop publishing packages.
Have an inspiring founder story?
Every entrepreneur’s journey is unique and powerful.
Your story of perseverance and success could be the spark that ignites the next generation of world-changing ideas. By sharing your experiences, you’re not just telling a story – you’re lighting a path for others to follow, dream, and achieve.
