Interview with Corene Hippolyte-Newman
“Be intentional with creating your own narrative – If you create and own your own platform / business, no one or nothing can take that away from you. .” – Corene Hippolyte-Newman
Today we feature Corene Hippolyte-Newman, the founder at PinkHippoLondonPR. We hear their story in their own words, their successes, their challenges and their insights.
Let’s start by getting to know you. Can you please tell us a little bit about you and what you do?
It all started after graduating with a Journalism degree, I wanted and decided to dive into Public Relations.
This was by default as I was an eager 21 year old who had a huge zest for life. I was working part-time in a supermarket but would put myself on different work placements which included John Lewis Press Office / Sassi PR.
After all this, I still had no luck on the full-time PR job front so I decided to start my own PR agency, I was done with waiting for others to see my drive and potential.
I had many stops and starts with my own company but now we are thriving and have continued to help many increase their brand awareness and overall visibility of their businesses/profiles.
A great introduction and start to this interview. Can you please tell us, how did you start, from what age, and what made you decide to change direction and start?
PinkHippoLondonPR was born in late 2010.
The journey began after I landed a role at an international headphones company, I became the UK PR and Marketing contact for the brand and was instrumental to all national and worldwide campaigns.
Soon after, I was picked up by a lifestyle PR agency where I began freelancing for 2 years, I worked with some great brands such as, Palmers and Mustela. This included working on PR campaigns with Jonny Wilkinson and Anthea Turner.
From here on, I turned PinkHippoLondon to full-time and within a short time, we have had the pleasure to work with names such as, The Screen Nation Film, TV Awards and Beyonce’s Dance Captain Ashley Everett to name a few.
Now PinkHippoLondonPR have been blessed enough to represent some of the top people and businesses from all types of industries.
I now continue to specialise in bringing new levels of PR to businesses and people that are in need.
Thank you for that insight. So can you tell us…What does your business do and where is your company based?
We are London based – Currently working from home.
The agency has now blossomed into a platform representing brands, small businesses, personalities and talent. We focus on building and developing the client’s reputation, brand outlook and media presence.
What’s the story behind your success? What led to your aha moment? how did you get to where you are now?
Sheer determination has kept me on the path, being a business owner comes with many highs and lows.
You have to be your own biggest cheerleader despite who is or isn’t supporting you. For many that can be a make or break situation, but I push myself, sometimes too much. However if you know you can always do better or improve, this allows you to always look at the bigger picture and see yourself objectively.
I have had many aha moments for example working with Beyonce’s dance captain, and then the next day, seeing them perform with Beyonce at Wembley. It felt very full circle at that moment.
My parents are my biggest supporters (and so they should) and they support everything I do, from every event to feedback. I would say, I don’t have a big support system, from the industry, anyway.
Thank you for sharing that. What’s been your life’s biggest lesson so far?
I would say I have learnt to say no, much more, as well as being more selective with which clients I take on.
Having a family means I have limited time so I have to be wise with my client work decisions. I noticed also that when I was saying yes to a lot of siutations, even when I wanted to say no, it would usually end up not working out mutually beneficial. I had to change this habit and now I feel better for it.
You don’t have to say yes to everything and everybody in the name of being a good person.
If you were to go back in time, what piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Less pressure to think your school grades is the be all and end all of your education. My school and college grades weren’t great at all but I still had the tenacity to push through and create a life for myself. Being an entrepreneur is hard but with difficulty comes an even greater sense of triumph when it comes. You forget all the hard work when you hit a target or a longing goal.
We’re nearly halfway through our interview so it’s a great time to ask how does your business run. What three tools make your business run better?
My three tools are:
MailChimp
Linkedin
Diary Directory
What do you know now that you wished you had known before?
You don’t have to say yes to everything and everybody in the name of being a good person.
What has been your greatest or proudest achievement or moment?

The event was attended by CH4 Presenters, ITV Presenters, Top beauty influencers, members of the The Sun newspaper and members of The Mirror newspaper.
