“Education is important, it’s a worthy investment. Stay focused and go for the gold. Work hard, you get out what you put in this life. ” – Ilana Mechoullam
Today we feature Ilana Mechoullam, the founder at Peace.Love.Med Aesthetic Rejuvenation. We hear their story in their own words, their successes, their challenges and their insights.
Let’s start by getting to know you. Can you please tell us a little bit about you and what you do?
I am an aesthetic injector nurse practitioner and female entrepreneur. I am the Founder of Peace.Love.Med. Aesthetic Rejuvenation, a medical spa fighting the social stigma surrounding beauty enhancement procedures by creating a safe and luxurious haven for those who want to look and feel better about themselves. I attended Emory in Atlanta for nursing school and duke for my masters in nursing. I love making patience feel even more beautiful in the skin that they are in.
A great introduction and start to this interview. Can you please tell us, how did you start, from what age, and what made you decide to change direction and start?
I’ve always been inspired to help others and been interested in the design and medical space. When I was 19 years old, I knew that I needed experience in the aesthetics field so I found a position working with one of Manhattan’s top plastic surgeons, a Harvard and NYU-trained leader in aesthetics. I worked with him on and off for nearly a decade. In 2017 inspired by my own experience growing up with a misshapen nose and passion for helping clients improve their self-esteem through aesthetics, I developed my own signature treatment, the non-surgical nose job and opened my medical spa.
Today, I’ve has performed over 12,000 nose procedures. Truthfully I have always been entrepreneurial even when I was 12 years old I started a little jewelry business and put my earrings all around town on consignment – I’ve always had a deep appreciation and a natural eye for art. As a child I would sell beanie babies in front of my house. We didn’t really have money growing up so whenever the word “ No “ was said to me, I figured out how to make money.
Thank you for that insight. So can you tell us…What does your business do and where is your company based?
We are boutique medical spa, located in the heart of Boca Raton, where we make people feel more comfortable and confident in the skin that they are in in a very safe and clean, chic and relaxing environment. Not your typical clinical medical spa, the luxurious space is designed to make you feel right at home. Featuring eclectic art, sculptures, and vintage furnishings, our guests feel like they’ve stepped straight into a chic friend’s fabulous SoHo penthouse. The artfully decorated and uplifting space is designed to remove any intimidation or fears surrounding a procedure and is the perfect place for guests to take selfies with their polished new nose, chin, cheeks, lips, or forehead
What’s the story behind your success? What led to your aha moment? how did you get to where you are now?
Raised by a single mom I was always motivated to work really hard. I am grateful I had a very strong, female figure in my life. My dad was always very entrepreneurial as well. We really didn’t have money growing up. I was on scholarship at private school. I was surrounded by kids that were very affluent, and I always said that one day I would make sure that I didn’t feel uncomfortable. I also had such a desire to take care of my mom, because she always worked so hard and I never got to see her. My aha moment sprung from my own challenges. I always felt uncomfortable getting medical spa treatments and procedures.
I felt it was a very cold environment and I wanted to change that. After suffering from bullying myself for my nose, I was determined to find a simple and effective way to empower other women and social stigmas surrounding beauty enhancement procedures so I started Peace.Love.Med. to do just that. I wanted to marry my entrepreneurial, anesthetic and artistic skills with my love and passion for science and medicine as well as fulfilling that patient bond and connection.
Thank you for sharing that. What’s been your life’s biggest lesson so far?
Be careful who you trust because people can be very jealous. Speak up and put yourself up for anything you want in life – no one’s going to do it for you.
Trust is earned not given.
If you were to go back in time, what piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
Stop looking for attention from other people stop really caring what other people think because in the end, it really doesn’t matter. It’s a disease to please. Fearlessly go after what you want.
We’re nearly halfway through our interview so it’s a great time to ask how does your business run. What three tools make your business run better?
My Team – I couldn’t do what I do without them Peace.Love.Med. is comprised of such an incredible team and tight network of passionate hard working loving individuals. They genuinely care about the patients and making sure they are so happy and that all of their needs are met. Our Scheduling System – Most of our patients in the practice are out of town. A lot of accommodations need to be met and we need to be very meticulous. Social Media – We’ve been able to not only create a strong online following but also build a 6 month+ waiting list by promoting our work and our results through social media.
What do you know now that you wished you had known before?
Trust is earned not given.
What has been your greatest or proudest achievement or moment?
Watching my team grow – year over year we invest in the technology, education and tools to create the best environment for ourselves and our patients. And of course the special bond we have with our clients. What makes me the happiest is when clients start crying tears of joy in my chair. When I hand them a mirror. I know just how they feel. I love being part of that process.
What future life goals do you want to achieve and why?
Cultivate and create wellness centers. It’s the future. People are really starting to look at integrative medicine and alternative medicine to prolong their life and to live a healthier and joyful life. It’s an idea that I’m currently exploring and becoming more and more passionate about.
To finish our inspire questions…”We believe that sharing inspiring words can inspire others.” If there was one positive thing you would say to someone to inspire and empower them what would it be and why?
Education is important, it’s a worthy investment. Stay focused and go for the gold. Work hard, you get out what you put in this life.
