Founder@ Interview
Quick Interview with Kirsten Rees
Who are you and what do you do?
I am a professional book editor and author coach who founded MakeMeASuccess in 2013. Initially, I launched as a copywriter with almost a decade of experience in content writing and have edited and proofread over five million words since then.
I empower people to write their stories! I’ve worked with clients who’ve lived through trauma, mental health issues, life-altering health changes, and grief. We talk and I help them break through emotional walls to be able to publish a book and move forward!
I’m also a published writer, have featured in multiple press articles, and a winner and nominee of several awards.
My previously self-published books are currently being re-edited and re-packaged and will be published along with my new books in a rapid release this year totally six books which will be available in print and as ebooks.
“Find or create a group or community.”

What’s the story behind your success?
I quit my last normal job in sales in 2012 and took a gap year to go travelling and also work on my career plan. I developed a health condition called fibromyalgia and although I was told I should consider giving up work and going on benefits.
Instead, I launched my own business which went on to win awards and I published my first book. Since then, I’ve transitioned into my second business and founded a women in business co-working day.
It’s a brilliant community of like-minded women who meet weekly to support and encourage one another. I’ve also been inspired to write a business book for people with health conditions to empower others like myself.
What’s the story been your life’s biggest lesson so far?
Everyone is different and needs to find their own path, however, we can all do with support and a community. I really missed having colleagues and being able to share and get help when needed.
The group I founded have been there for one another through the ups and downs of the last six months – some newly launching, others years into their business. While I don’t get work out of it, I have been passed recommendations from within the group, however, the best part of it is having people to uplift and encourage me to go for awards, to make positive changes, and to have confidence in new ideas and every area of my business.
What three tools makes your business run better?
- My positive mindset.
- Grammarly (which has tracked over 4.2million words checked just since 2015)
- Canva.
